The short answer

Newcastle East is the harbour end of the city, the few blocks between the ocean baths and the working port, and Bellus comes to it. Amanda Frost sets up in the hotel room, the terrace or the apartment the party has taken over, so the morning stays walking distance from the ceremony. Newcastle East sits inside the free travel zone, and trials are held at the Cameron Park studio.

Mobile bridal artist serving Newcastle East and the harbour mouth

Newcastle East is the oldest part of the city and the smallest suburb on this site, a handful of blocks with the ocean on one side and the harbour on the other. Almost everything a wedding needs is inside it, which is why couples keep choosing it: the ceremony, the reception, the accommodation and the photographs can all happen without anyone getting into a car. I come to whichever room you are in and the day starts from there.

The east end is hotel rooms, terraces and apartments, and I work in all three. My kit is fully self-contained, so a small room is not a problem and neither is a listed terrace with awkward power points. I will usually set up beside the biggest window, because the light coming off the water here is the light your photographs will be taken in, and matching foundation to it in the room beats matching it under a bathroom bulb.

Venues Around Newcastle East

Venues and Areas Amanda Covers in Newcastle East

  • Noah’s on the Beach, on Shortland Esplanade, where the getting-ready and the ceremony can be in the same building
  • Customs House Newcastle, the sandstone landmark at the foot of the city, a short walk from most east end accommodation
  • Newcastle Town Hall, up the rise on King Street, for couples who want the grand civic ceremony
  • Nobbys Beach and Camp Shortland, the ceremony spots at the harbour mouth, with the breakwall and the lighthouse behind you
  • Fort Scratchley, high on the headland, which is where a lot of these weddings go for photographs once the ceremony is done
  • Harbourside apartments and heritage terraces, the private getting-ready locations that make this suburb work

Why Bellus

Why Newcastle East Brides Choose Bellus

  • I travel to your room, so a suburb this walkable stays walkable and nobody spends the morning parking
  • Sea air, hard light and the wind off the breakwall are the conditions here, and 18 years of Newcastle mornings means the look is built to survive them
  • Hotel suites, small terraces and apartment bathrooms are all normal working environments for me, kit and mirrors included
  • Airbrush or traditional foundation, chosen at your trial and included either way rather than charged as an upgrade
  • No travel fee anywhere in Newcastle, so the quote covers the work and the only extra on the day is the parking meter

Newcastle East questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does hair and makeup cost for a Newcastle East wedding?

Bridal hair is $160 and bridal makeup is $160, so the bride is $320 for both. Bridesmaids are $150 for hair and $150 for makeup, mothers of the bride and groom are $130 for makeup, and flower girls start at $60. There is no travel fee to Newcastle East, so city parking on the day is the only extra. Trials are $150 each at my Cameron Park studio, and a $300 deposit holds your date.

Do you come to hotels in Newcastle East?

Constantly. Hotel suites along the foreshore are one of the most common places I work, and they are well suited to it: the rooms are bright, the party is already in one building, and nobody has to be anywhere by car. Give me the hotel and the room number when you have it and I will arrive set up for the space.

We are getting married at Noah's on the Beach. Do you know it?

I do, and it is a short walk from most of the Newcastle East accommodation. I have worked plenty of mornings that start in a room upstairs and end with the ceremony downstairs, which is the easiest timeline there is. The light off the water at that end of the beach is strong, and I will build the makeup for it.

Can we have the photographs done at Nobbys or Fort Scratchley afterwards?

Most couples do, and it is worth planning the morning around. If the photographer wants the lighthouse or the fort in the late afternoon, tell me the run sheet when you enquire and I will set the hair and the makeup to hold through the ceremony and the wind on the breakwall, rather than just to look right at eleven.

Is parking a problem for you in the east end?

It is the one genuinely fiddly thing about this suburb and it is worth a sentence in your enquiry. If the accommodation has a space I can use for the kit, say so; if not, I will build a few extra minutes into the front of the timeline and find a metered spot. It never changes the price, only the arrival time.
